The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has granted bail to Sokkanathan, the father of a 19-year-old medical aspirant who was arrested in Dindigul for producing fake certificates to secure a seat at the Dindigul Government Medical College Hospital.
Earlier this month, the Dindigul District Crime Police arrested a candidate and her parents for producing a fake NEET result card and documents to secure admission in a medical college. The fraud was discovered during the admissions process.
According to the police, the candidate scored 228 marks in NEET and failed to secure a medical seat. In a desperate bid to get a seat, the girl and her parents prepared a fake NEET score card showing that she had scored 456 marks. Fake documents were also prepared stating that she was allotted a medical chair in Dindigul college.
Suspecting the authenticity of the candidate’s NEET scorecard and certificates, the college authorities sent them to the Directorate of Medical Education in Chennai for verification, which revealed them to be fake.
On the basis of a complaint filed by the Dean of the Medical College, petitioner Sokkanathan, his wife Vijaya Murugeswari and their daughter were arrested.
Considering that there was no previous case against the petitioner, Justice S Srimatha granted him bail. He was ordered to report to the Dindigul District Crime Police every day for a week and thereafter as and when required for questioning.
