Liverpool defender Andy Robertson admitted the defending Premier League champions face an uphill battle to stay in the title race following their 3-0 loss to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday 9 November. Robertson entered the game as Liverpool beat City in a commanding performance that saw Erling Haaland, Nico Gonzalez and Jeremy Doku get on the scoresheet.
It was Liverpool’s fifth loss in the Premier Leaguemore than the number of defeats for the whole of last season in the competition. It was also Liverpool’s 7th loss in 10 games in all competitions. Speaking to the club’s website, Robertson said that no one will be looking at the scoreboard at the moment, but they will have to start picking up points consistently.
“Obviously we put up a huge fight,” he told the club’s website. “But I don’t think any of the teams will really look at the league table until we’re halfway through.
“We need to pick up points on a more consistent basis. Then we’ll see where we are after Christmas or something.”
‘NO NAME YET’
With 18 points, Liverpool are eighth in the points table and lead Arsenal by eight points. However, Robertson said it was too early to talk about the title as only games had been played.
The Scotland defender said the title is not the talk of the Liverpool dressing room at the moment.
“I don’t think you can talk about the title so early in the season, no matter what position you are in,” he added. “Then you have to consistently start winning games again for it to even be a consideration.
“It’s definitely not a question that’s talked about in the locker room or anything.
Liverpool will play against Nottingham Forest once the Premier League starts after the international break.
