Lionel Messi’s ‘GOAT tour’ promoter Satadru Dutt has returned to the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) after the party’s defeat in the Bengal elections. Dutta, who was jailed for 37 days after Messi’s visit to the Salt Lake Stadium descended into chaos, threatened to sue the party for Rs 100 crore.
In a series of posts uploaded on social media, the businessman alleged that the TMC had destroyed three years of his hard work and defamed him after the Salt Lake incident. He added that he would take the party to court and pursue the case to the end.
“Just because you lost the election, don’t think you have been punished. I will file a defamation case and go to the Supreme Court if necessary. I will fight till the end,” Satadru said after the election results were announced.
Dutta also criticized outgoing Bengal Sports Minister Aroop Biswas for pushing himself and his companions in front of Messi, which reportedly angered the footballer. A rally around the athlete by the minister and his associates angered the crowd in Salt Lake, leading to vandalism at the stadium and cutting Messi’s visit short.
Blaming Biswas for the incident, Dutta said the outgoing minister will have to answer for his actions.
“I repeatedly told him not to click pictures here. But he used his power and continued taking pictures. He will have to pay for it,” said Dutta.
After the Kolkata debacle, Dutta spent 37 days in jail after the police registered two separate cases against him and others in connection with the incident.
Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwary also criticized Biswas. After Tiwary announced that he was quitting the TMC, he said that Biswas did not know the “A, B, C, D of sports” and blocked the state’s sports policy during his tenure.
TMC were driven out of Bengal after 15 years of rule. The BJP came to power in Bengal for the first time after sweeping the polls with 207 seats.
