A day after her party suffered a humiliating defeat in the West Bengal assembly polls, Trinamool Congress president Mamata Banerjee said on Tuesday (May 5, 2026) that several leaders of the INDIA bloc, including Sonia Gandhi, had reached out to her, adding that she would work to “strengthen” the opposition alliance.
“Thank you to all leaders of INDIA block. Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh (Yadav), Hemant Soren, Tejaswi (Yadav), leaders have called me. Akhilesh is coming to meet me tomorrow. Now my goal is clear. I am a free bird, I have made it clear what I will do with other leaders of INDIA block in INDIA block I will strengthen her residence.
