The Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) model, which was earlier introduced to mobilize resources beyond the budget, needs to be modernized and reorganized in line with the changing political and economic circumstances, said CPI(M) leader and former finance minister TM Thomas Isaac.
He inaugurated a seminar organized in connection with the 150th anniversary of Maharaja’s College, Ernakulam and the centenary of its Department of Economics and later during an interaction with undergraduate and postgraduate students.
He stressed that equitable sharing of resources at various levels of government and development efforts undertaken with assured public participation must be considered as the cornerstone of Kerala’s new developmental phase.
Kerala’s new phase of development can be meaningfully realized by preparing and implementing a knowledge-based economy action plan that builds on the progress made in education. The next 30 years must be transformed into a period of rapid progress through a revised development path based on the development achievements of the past seventy years, Mr Isaac said.
Principal Jolly V. Antony presided. Mr. Isaac also inaugurated the alumni meeting of the Department of Economics. Former Uttarakhand Chief Secretary M. Ramachandran was the chief guest. Chief Journalist MK Das and Kalady University Registrar Dr. Mothy George offered congratulations.
