Chief Minister Siddarahaiah announced on Thursday that the Karnataka government will build a memorial for the renowned writer Kannada and Padma Bhushan SL Bhyrapa award to honor his life and work.
Mr. Siddaramaiah said it after he devoted his last respect to Bhyrapp in Ravindra Kalakshertra here. The funeral of the Bhyrapy would be made on Friday with a distinction in Mysur with full state awards.
Bhyrappa, a professor of philosophy, died Wednesday at the age of 94.
Thousands of people gave the ravindra Kalakshertr, where the writer’s deadly remains were held to allow them to pay respect. Among those who paid tributes were prominent writers of Kannada, film stars and politicians.
Film personalities including Tar, Srinath and TS Nagabharan offered their respect, while BJP leaders from Vijayendra, CN Ashwath Narayan, and TS Srivatsa, Mla, were among those who gave up respect and urged the main Minister Siddaraiaha to set up the Bhyrappa memory.
The deputy Minister DK Shivakumar, who also gave up respect, remembered: “SL Bhyrappa was President of Kannada Sahity Sammelan in 1994 in Canacapon. This was the first time I met him.” He added that the style of writing Bhyrappy was “direct and open” and that “his philosophy stands as a guide to society, not just the literary world”.
Mr. Siddaramaiah also spoke of his personal connection with the late writer. “Although our perspectives were different, we shared a good relationship. Literature and friendship were separate.” He described him as one of the greatest literary personalities in the carnat and said, “It would be appropriate if he was awarded the JnanPith Award.”
Minister Cheif, who reiterated that the decision to establish a memorial in Mysuru was his own, said: “It is not because it was required by BJP. The government will take steps to position the Memorial in Mysur.
