Kerala CM VD Satheesan seeks PM Modi’s intervention for Indian medical workers affected by visa issues in UAE amid Iran war | Today’s news
Kerala Chief Minister VD Satheesan on Sunday urged the central government to step in and address the concerns of Indian health workers affected by visa complications in the United Arab Emirates following the closure of Dubai’s Iranian hospital amid ongoing unrest in West Asia.
In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Satheesan highlighted the plight of a number of Indian doctors, many of them from Kerala, who were employed at the hospital and now face uncertainty about their employment and residency status as a result of its closure.
“I am writing to request your urgent intervention on behalf of a group of Indian health professionals, mostly from Kerala, who were employed in an Iranian hospital in Dubai and are currently facing an extremely distressing situation,” Satheesan.
He added: “Following the closure of the hospital as a result of recent regional developments, many of these nurses and health workers have reportedly encountered visa restrictions in the UAE, affecting their ability to obtain employment, visit and dependent visas. As a result, families who have lived and worked in the UAE for years now face uncertainty, financial hardship and the prospect of losing their livelihoods.”
Highlighting the contributions of these health professionals and the humanitarian nature of their plight, the Chief Minister urged the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to work closely with the Indian Embassy in the UAE and the relevant Emirati authorities to ensure a fair and compassionate outcome for those affected.
“Many affected individuals are currently nearing the end of their grace period and fear they may be forced to leave the UAE, potentially jeopardizing their future employment opportunities and professional licenses. The situation has caused immense anxiety among numerous Malaysian families whose lives and children’s education are rooted in the UAE,” the CM said.
He stressed that in view of the concern for the welfare of Indian citizens living abroad, the Center should look into the matter and engage with all parties concerned to find a just solution.
Sharing the letter on X, he mentioned, “Wrote to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi seeking urgent intervention on behalf of Indian health professionals, mostly from Kerala, affected by visa issues following closure of Iranian hospital in Dubai. Requested Indian Govt to work with #UAE authorities to help ensure fair and compassionate solution for affected families.”
At the same time, the White House is working to finalize a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Tehran aimed at ending the current conflict and paving the way for broader negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program. However, significant differences remain between the two sides on several key provisions of the proposed agreement, according to US officials and regional mediators familiar with the discussions.
Although the talks have reportedly entered a decisive phase, officials have warned that the chances of reaching a final deal remain uncertain, with the outcome still hanging in the balance.
