Kolkata Knight Riders’ Kartik Tyagi had an absolute screamer in the team’s match against Lucknow Super Giants. Kartik Tyagi defended 16 runs in the final of the match at the Ekana Stadium and bowled two full tosses against Himmat Singh. Just as logic dictated that Tyagi be dismissed for throwing two dangerous balls, the umpires decided otherwise.
In an astonishing moment, the umpires asked the fast bowler to stay in the attack. The move confused fans on social media. Under the rules, two no-balls to the waist from any fast bowler will trigger an immediate change in bowling as the balls are considered unsafe.
LSG vs KKR, IPL 2026: Highlights | Scorecard
Just as KKR and the commentators began to speculate on who would bowl the remaining balls, the umpires on Sunday decided to allow Tyagi to continue bowling as the second full toss of his over was not considered dangerous.
While the Lucknow Super Giants fans were furious at the decision, Tyagi continued to bowl and ended up bowling the batsman. However, he failed to win the game for KKR as Mohammed Shami’s heroics in the final took the match into the Super Over.
Here’s how the LSG vs KKR final unfolded.
Lucknow Super Giants needed 17 runs from the final over, with Mohammad Shami and Himmat Singh at the crease and Kolkata Knight Riders trusting Kartik Tyagi to seal the game.
19.1: Tyagi started with a slower delivery from a length outside off. Shami tries to chop it on the edge but misses completely. The ball bounced awkwardly in front of Tim Seifert, who failed to collect it cleanly, and the batsmen stole a bye. LSG got the first run but more importantly Himmat was back on strike.
19.2: The drama arrived immediately. Tyagi lost control and opened full fire on Himmat Singh, a dangerous beam around the off stump. Himmat did well to get some bat on him while protecting himself. The ball landed on the leg side and the umpire immediately called it a no-ball. Free hit.
19.2 (free access): Tyagi missed again. Another waist length full toss, this time on the off stump. Himmat connected and lifted it towards long-on where Rovman Powell completed the catch but it didn’t count as it was another no-ball. KKR reviewed the waist call and hoped for relief, but ball tracking confirmed it was comfortably above the batsman’s waist. Left without the ball, LSG got two runs and another free hit followed. There was also confusion over whether Tyagi should have been sent off for throwing two beams, but the umpires ruled that the second delivery was not dangerous enough, allowing him to continue.
19.2 (second free kick): This time Himmat punished him. Tyagi went short and slower on the pitch but Himmat was ready. He stood deep in the crease and pulled it powerfully over square leg for four. Suddenly, the equation shifted to eight needed from four balls and the pressure mounted on Tyagi.
19.3: KKR were quick to adapt, placing Rinka Singh at deep backward square leg and the move worked instantly. Tyagi jumped back a bit and Himmat came back to pull again. This time he hit it flat and right at Rink in the deep. The polar bearer barely moved and completed a leisurely catch. Himmat’s batting strike ended and LSG were now 148/8, needing eight from three balls.
Prince Yadav walked in and the game was still swinging wildly.
19.4: Tyagi followed the prince with a slower bouncer as he shuffled well out for the scoop. Prince missed it completely and Seifert fumbled for the stumps again. The batsmen moved on to the bye. Had Seifert bowled at the striker’s end, Shami might have struggled, but the chance was gone. Seven were now needed from two balls, with Shami on strike again.
19.5: Tyagi kept it outside off on a wide, on a length. Shami planted and swung hard but didn’t connect with anything. A giant ball. The equation was now brutally simple: seven were needed from one ball. Only a six can force a Super Over.
19.6: Tyagi missed the mark at the worst possible moment. It landed right in the gap on the off stump and Shami didn’t miss. He freed his front foot, swung beautifully across the line and hit the ball over long on for a massive six. Absolute scenes at Ekana Stadium. KKR were left stunned while LSG erupted in celebration.
