Jacquees Arrested in Hollywood on DUI and Battery Charges: What Police Say Happened

R&B singer Jacquees was arrested in Hollywood, Florida after police found him asleep in a vehicle, with the 32-year-old now facing three charges, including driving under the influence and battery on a police officer.

Singer Jacquees arrested in Hollywood

Jacquees, whose real name is Rodriguez Jacquees Broadnax, was taken into custody Sunday, Sept. 27, in Broward County. He was charged with DUI, resisting an officer without violence and battery on an officer, firefighter or emergency medical technician, according to Hollywood Police Department and jail records cited by NBC Miami.

According to an arrest report obtained by NBC Miami, officers responded to the 100 block of North 62nd Avenue after receiving a report of a man passed out inside a pickup truck.

Jacquees was reportedly found sleeping in a Jeep Gladiator near Hollywood Boulevard. Police and firefighters tried to wake him up by tapping the vehicle and shaking it, but the singer reportedly did not respond.

Firefighters eventually used a jackhammer to gain access to the vehicle. Even after that, according to the report, Jacquees remained asleep. He was subsequently placed on a stretcher and transferred to a fire rescue truck.

The situation is said to have changed when he was taken for a medical examination.

The officer noticed an odor of alcohol coming from Broadnax, according to the report. A firefighter later told officers that Jacquees became combative and tried to get out of the back of the truck.

NBC Miami reported that Jacquees told the officer he needed to use the restroom and asked him to move. When the officer put his hand on his arm, the report claimed Jacquees punched the officer in the arm. He was then arrested.

CBS News Miami also reported that Hollywood police arrested the singer over the weekend on three charges, including DUI, resisting an officer and assaulting an officer.

Jacquees appeared in bond court later Monday and was given a total bond of $3,500, according to WSVN.

Who is Jacquees?

The Atlanta-born singer is best known for songs including “BED” (2016) and “You” (2018). NBC Miami reported that they had four songs that appeared on the Billboard Hot 100.

An arrest is not a conviction and the charges against Jacquees remain charges unless proven in court. The authorities are still investigating the circumstances of the incident.

NBC Miami said it is seeking additional information about the arrest.
