No intention to curtail political freedom in universities: Kerala University

The University of Kerala maintained that it had no intention of curtailing student politics on campus.

The university management clarified this in response to a question raised by University Union President Shiva S. during the Senate meeting held on Monday. The authorities also said that there is currently no ban on the activities of student organizations in Kerala University.

The Senate unanimously approved the Syndicate’s recommendation to award honorary doctorates to former ISRO chairman K. Radhakrishnan, veteran actor Madhu, filmmaker-lyricist Sreekumaran Thampi and former Indian hockey captain PR Sreejesh. Vice-Chancellor (in-charge) Mohanan Kunnummal informed the Senate that the convocation ceremony will be held on October 25.

In the elections held during the meeting, representatives of the left were elected to two positions. Students Federation of India (SFI) candidate S. Sreejith was elected as student representative to the Syndicate, while Priya Priyadarshan, representative of All Kerala Private College Teachers’ Association (AKPCTA) was elected as Kerala University representative to the General Council of Kerala Agricultural University.
