Iran Agreed Never to Have Nuclear Weapon, Trump Says, Calls Report of US Paying $300 Million Fake News | Today’s news
US President Donald Trump said on Monday (local time) that Iran had agreed to “never have a nuclear weapon” as part of a peace deal between Washington and Tehran to end the war that began on February 28. Trump also flagged a report saying the US was paying Iran $3 million for “fake news published by Dumocrats”.
“Iran has agreed to never have a nuclear weapon! Also, the story that the US is paying Iran $300 million is fake news put out by the Democrats,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.
The US and Iran signed a peace deal
Trump’s comments came hours after the US and Iran signed a tentative deal to end the Gulf War. Although both sides said the ceasefire announced in April would be extended for another 60 days and the Strait of Hormuz would be reopened as part of the deal, key details, including the future of Iran’s nuclear program, the status of Tehran’s asset freeze and the lifting of sanctions, still remain unclear.
Earlier in the day, Trump also confirmed that vessel movement through the Strait of Hormuz had been restored as part of the US-Iran peace deal.
“Ships are starting to move, many loaded with oil, from the Strait of Hormuz. They are sailing the southern ‘highway’ which is absolutely safe, secure and intact. There are other areas of travel as well,” Trump said on Truth Social.
