(PTI Photo/Atul Yadav) *** Local Caption *** NEW DELHI: There is still some time left in the Indian Premier League (IPL) mini-auction, but there is a lot going on behind the scenes as franchises explore their potential trade options before players go under fire. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) wicket-keeper batsman Ishan Kishan is attracting a lot of interest from franchises and five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) have learned to lead the race to bring the devastating southpaw home. It is understood that MI has made an approach for Kishan but nothing has materialized at this stage. Not only MI, even Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) have knocked on SRH’s door for a potential trade / all-cash deal for the left-hander, but there has been no further development in this regard. All the three sides – MI, KKR and RR – seem to be looking for a top-class wicket-taker considering their current team dynamics.
‘It was for all the supporters’: Ishan Kishan in animated celebration after scoring a hundred
South African Ryan Rickelton has done a very good job at the top of MI’s order in IPL 2025, but Kishan gives them more flexibility and allows the management to explore another overseas option in the Playing XI. Moreover, it also allows them to be prepared for life after Rohit Sharma. The former India and MI captain is just 38 and clearly doesn’t have many IPL years left in him either. MI has always looked to the future and Kishan is someone who has invested immensely in the past and is currently a good fit for the Mumbai-based franchise. However, everything depends on how the communication between MI and SRH materializes. From initial chatter, SRH seem reluctant to let go of Kishan, but that could all change if the player decides to leave.

Which IPL franchise do you think Ishan Kishan should join?
Kishan had his best years in the IPL at MI and failed to live up to his billing at SRH after fetching Rs 11.25 crore in the mega auction. It’s been a down-and-out ride since then, but the stars are once again aligning for him. Kishan almost made a comeback to the Indian Test team during the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy but was unable to join due to injury. His unavailability meant that N Jagadeesan joined the party as a replacement for Rishabh Pant. The left-hander had a solid start to the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy season, smashing 173 vs Tamil Nadu and playing a key role in Jharkhand’s innings defeat and 114-run triumph. Although Kishan was not named in the recent India A squad, he is still on the selectors’ radar and is being watched.
