Real Madrid’s Champions League campaign ended in frustration as they were knocked out by Bayern Munich and players and staff slammed the referee for Eduardo Camavinga’s late red card.
The controversial decision proved decisive in the 6-4 aggregate defeat, leaving Madrid fuming at what they saw as the turning point in an otherwise finely balanced contest.
The match was even before the incident. However, Camaving’s second yellow card late in the game shifted the momentum and allowed Bayern to capitalize and score twice to seal progression.
At the final whistle at the Allianz Arena, Real Madrid players rushed to the referee and surrounded him in protest as frustration spilled over.
Captain Dani Carvajal was seen confronting referee Slavko Vincic, visibly enraged, immediately after the decision.
“It’s your fault. It’s your fault!” Carvajal was heard shouting at the official.
Jude Bellingham also didn’t hide his frustration when he spoke after the match and questioned the logic behind the booking.
“It’s a joke. It’s impossible for it to be a yellow. Two fouls and two yellows,” Bellingham said.
Antonio Rudiger spoke briefly about the incident as he made his way through the mixed zone, echoing the general sentiment in the team about the decision.
Meanwhile, Arda Gulerová progressed further. The youngster clashed with the referee after the final whistle and received a red card himself near the tunnel, adding to Madrid’s frustration and leading to a suspension for next season.
HOW BAYERN ENDED THE UCL FIGHT FOR REAL MADRID
Real Madrid got off to a dream start as they capitalized on an early error from Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer as Guler headed home in the opening minute. Bayern responded quickly but Madrid continued to find a way as Guler scored again and Kylian Mbappe ensured they went into the break ahead in a chaotic first half.
The game turned late on when Camavinga was sent off, changing the tide significantly. Bayern took full advantage as Diaz scored with a deflection before adding Olise. Madrid’s challenge faded from there and frustration boiled over at full-time.
WHY WAS CAMAVINGA INTRODUCED RED VS. BAYERN?
Camaving’s release came under unusual circumstances.
The midfielder was booked earlier in the game when he received a second yellow card after holding onto the ball for several seconds following a challenge on Harry Kane.

Although the initial challenge itself was not considered serious, the referee penalized him for delaying the restart, a decision Madrid players felt was harsh given the context of the match.
The call ultimately proved costly as Madrid were forced to play the final minutes with ten men.
REAL MADRID COACH CALLS RED CARD UNEXPLAINABLE
With Real Madrid now out of the Champions League and nine points behind FC Barcelona in La Liga, the pressure is mounting on head coach Alvaro Arbelo. Defeat opened up the possibility for Madrid to end the season without a trophy, increasing scrutiny of both the results and the decision.
After the match, Arbeloa identified the red card as the defining moment that changed not only the game but potentially Madrid’s season.
“You can’t send a player off for an incident like that. I believe the referee didn’t even know he already had a card and he ended up ruining a knockout tie and a game that was beautiful, balanced and on top,” Arbeloa said.
He also reflected on the emotional toll of the result, especially considering his players’ effort on the night.
“It was a huge performance from my players. I feel very sorry for them, for the effort they put in, and also for the Real Madrid fans who supported us. It hurts because we won’t win for the sixteenth time this year,” he added.
Arbeloa went further, challenging the decision more forcefully while highlighting the implications it had on the tie.
“It’s an action that nobody understands. It’s inexplicable, it’s unfair and we’re deeply frustrated because the tie slipped because of something beyond our control,” he said.
For Real Madrid, defeat ends their Champions League campaign and leaves them room to cover at home. With La Liga on the run and no European run to fall back on, the focus now shifts to how they will respond in the latter part of the season.
