Weather News from India LIVE: Train services on the busy Mumbai-Pune route were suspended early on Monday after heavy rains triggered landslides in the Karjat-Lonavala Bhor Ghat section. A landslide occurred near Thakurwadi in the Ghat section, an official told PTI, adding that another landslide occurred on the median line between Khandala and Monkey Hill around 3:05 am. The official noted that all three railway lines were affected due to landslides, prompting the Central Railway to cancel, divert and regulate several long-distance trains. The Mumbai–Pune railway route has three tracks in the difficult Bhor Ghat (Khandala Ghat) section: the up line (towards Mumbai), the down line (towards Pune) and the intermediate line.

At least six dead and one injured after chawl collapses in Mumbai

On the night of June 5, a three-storey chawl collapsed in Mumbai’s Mankhurd area, leaving six dead and one injured. According to reports, one person is feared trapped under the debris and a multi-agency operation, including National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel, is underway to find her. The incident took place around 8.30 pm at Chawl No. 5 in Janta Nagar, behind Hanuman Mandir, in Mandala locality.

Two people were killed when trees fell in Mumbai amid heavy rains

As heavy rains continue to batter Mumbai, an 18-year-old and a senior citizen lost their lives in two separate incidents of falling trees, taking the city’s toll to three in less than a week. According to civic officials, a tree fell on a shop near BMC Hindi School in Naupada locality of Kurla West on June 5 around 12.40 pm. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials said at least 203 complaints of falling trees and branches were lodged across the city between 6pm and 8am, of which 116 were in the island city, 83 in the eastern suburbs and 84 in the western suburbs.

Schools in Pune will remain closed on Monday following the IMD red alert

After the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert and warned of extremely heavy rainfall, Pune on Monday declared a holiday for all schools across the district as a precautionary measure for the safety of students. In a post on X, the Pune Municipal Corporation also urged citizens to avoid stepping out of their homes unless necessary. He also advised them to stay away from rivers, streams and other dangerous places and strictly follow the instructions issued by the local administration from time to time.

Meanwhile, the BMC on June 5 announced that all government, private and civic schools and colleges in Mumbai would remain closed on Monday after the IMD issued an “orange alert” predicting heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds.
