An IMD scientist responds to heat wave warnings in several parts of the country

Meanwhile, the IMD has issued a heat wave warning for several parts of the country, saying that the maximum temperatures may go up to 45 degrees Celsius in the coming days. The hot and dry weather is expected to continue for at least the next week.

IMD scientist Akhilesh Shrivastav told ANI on Monad that heatwave conditions are expected to affect northwest India, central India and adjoining regions and are likely to continue for the next seven days.

“The maximum temperatures recorded yesterday were between 42-43 degrees Celsius. Our estimate is that during the next week, temperatures in Delhi could remain between 42-44 degrees Celsius. Temperatures could touch 45 degrees in the next 3 days and isolated heat waves are also expected in Delhi. An ‘orange alert’ has been issued for Delhi for the next two days,” Shrivad said.

He added that heat wave warnings have been issued for Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Vidarbha, Central Maharashtra and Marathwada regions of Maharashtra.

“Northwest India will remain largely dry, leading to an increase in temperatures. However, rain is expected in Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. A heavy to very heavy rainfall warning has been issued for Kerala. Karnataka may also experience hailstorms, while northeast India is expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall,” he added.
