IMD Monsoon Update: Northeast states on orange alert for rain; heat wave handles Delhi, Punjab, others | Today’s news

An India Meteorological Department (IMD) report revealed that maximum temperatures touched 46 degrees Celsius on Tuesday in several states including Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, North Madhya Pradesh, parts of Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh. Meanwhile, Rajasthan’s Sri Ganganagar recorded the highest temperature of 46.6 degrees Celsius on June 9, followed by Punjab’s Bathinda and Madhya Pradesh’s Khajuraho.

As heat conditions continue to prevail in northwest India, the IMD has issued a yellow alert for Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. The agency suggested that heat waves are likely in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and isolated areas of East Uttar Pradesh on June 10, and stressed that such weather conditions will persist over West Rajasthan, West Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Delhi till June 11.

According to the Met Department, hot and humid weather will continue to prevail in Odisha till June 11 and Goa till June 10. Residents of central India can expect a gradual rise in maximum temperatures of 2-3°C today. A gradual rise in maximum temperatures by 2-3°C is also likely over northwest India till June 11.

In a dust storm forecast for Rajasthan on June 11, the IMD said: “Thundersquall (wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph) likely over Haryana Chandigarh and Delhi, Punjab, Uttarakhand and West Uttar Pradesh during June 11-12; East Uttar Pradesh during June and West Rajasthan Pradesh; June 11-13.”

He added: “Isolated hail likely over Haryana Chandigarh and Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Punjab and Uttarakhand during June 11-12; West Uttar Pradesh on June 12.”

What is the status of Southwest Monsoon?

At the same time, the Meteorological Department reported that the Southwest Monsoon has advanced further into the remaining parts of the Northeast States, entire Sikkim and some parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal. The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rainfall in these areas and has issued an orange alert for Bihar, West Bengal, Assam, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh and coastal Karnataka.

On the progress of Southwest Monsoon in the coming days, the IMD in its latest press release said, “Conditions are favorable for further advance of Southwest Monsoon to some other parts of Central Arabian Sea, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, remaining parts of Tamil Nadu and Southwest Bay of Bengal, some other parts of West Central and Northwest Bay of Bigal, some parts of Bay of Bengal. Jharkhand & Odisha during next 4-5 days.”

Heavy rains are likely over sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim from June 11 to 13; in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Bihar by June 12; in Odisha between 11th and 13th June and in Goa till 11th June.

Today’s weather in Delhi

The day after the intense gale, weather conditions are expected to remain partly cloudy in the morning before becoming generally cloudy in the afternoon. “A spell of very light rain/light rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning/dust storm and strong winds of 50-60 km/h gusting to 70 km/h in the evening/night,” the weatherman said. The IMD issued an orange warning for heavy rain on June 11 and a yellow warning for the following day.

Residents of the state capital can expect maximum temperatures to rise by around 1°C today and fall by 7-8°C by 12 June 2026, then rise by 2-3°C. On Tuesday, Ridge area monitoring station recorded the highest maximum temperature of 44.7 degrees Celsius, followed by Lodhi Road at 44 degrees Celsius.
