The Holi festival turned tragic for the families of three boys aged 12 to 16 who drowned in a water tank at Chikkavaram Kandrika village in Gannavaram mandal of Krishna district on March 3 (Tuesday).
Preliminary information suggests that the three friends, D. Naveen Kumar, Venkata Joseph and Sai, all residents of the same village, had gone to wash after playing Holi, Circle Inspector Siva Prasad said.
When the boys did not return home by 6 p.m., their families began searching the village. When police heard from several residents that the trio had been seen near the tank, they intensified their search in the area and later recovered the bodies. “It appears that one of them accidentally slipped into the deep tank and the other two may have drowned while trying to rescue him,” he said.
All three bodies were recovered.
