Also known as Buddha Jayanti, it celebrates the birth of Gautama Buddha, the spiritual teacher who founded Buddhism. Buddha Purnima celebrates his birth, enlightenment and passing away (Mahaparinirvana). This year marks the 2588th anniversary of the birth of Gautama Buddha.
