Phohot are prisoners from prison.
Alok Kumar, Director General of Police (DGP), Prisons and Correctional Services, on Monday inspected the Central Jail for the first time since assuming office and promised to address the persistent problems there.
Mr. Kumar inspected all the cells as well as the parking lot, bakery and shops located outside the prison.
Referring to the repeated seizure of mobile phones in the jail while talking to presspersons after the inspection, Mr. Kumar said there was a need to get to the root of the problem and understand the network through which mobile phones are smuggled into jails.
“Around 151 jail-related cases have been registered and 72 have been charged, but a deeper investigation is needed to understand the problem. We will do that and identify the channels through which mobile phones and banned items are being supplied,” Kumar said.
He said action has already been initiated against those involved in the earlier cases and the police have now been given 15 days to fill all the loopholes in the system. If any case occurs after this period, strict action will be taken, he added.
Mr. Kumar also said he had been hanging out with murder accused and Kannada actor Darshan and asked if there were any problems. However, according to Mr. Kumar, Darshan did not report any problems.
He further instructed officials to fix problems related to network jammers around prisons and to identify and address black spots on prison premises.
