
On Friday morning (local time), shots were fired in a neighborhood near Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Harvard University released a statement saying an unknown person on a bicycle shot another on Sherman Street, then headed toward Garden Street.
The university issued a shelter-in-place directive after the shooting, but later revoked the same.
“Cambridge Police have advised that there is no ongoing risk to public safety at this time,” Harvard said in an emergency alert around 11 a.m., according to the Boston Herald, adding, “The shelter in place has been lifted. Please continue to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity.”
Cambridge Police responded to the incident and are currently searching for a suspect.
Sgt. Robert Reardon, the department’s public information officer, told the publication that ballistics evidence was recovered from the scene of the shooting.
“Cambridge Police are currently on the scene of a shooting incident that occurred on Sherman St. near Danehy Park,” he told the publication, adding that ballistics evidence has been recovered. There are no known casualties or ongoing risk to public safety at this time. More information will be shared as it becomes available.”
