From Samsung to Salesforce to Google: How an IITian turned his ‘will to prove it’ into a dream career | Success Story | Today’s news
From dabbling in coding and technical discussions at Samsung to cracking Salesforce and finally landing a job at Google, the Bengaluru-based tech professional described his journey as a personal struggle to prove that his achievements were not just a fluke.
Techie IIT graduate Vedic Mishra, who goes by the Instagram handle @bug_to_feature, recently shared his career journey, explaining how his early coding struggles made him feel like an outsider among more experienced developers.
“As a newbie at Samsung, I was never much of a programmer. Team discussions about design and quality felt Greek,” he wrote, recalling the difficulties he faced early in his career.
Rather than let these struggles hold him back, he decided to treat them as a challenge. Gaining confidence from his IIT experience, he said he began to believe that if he could get into IIT, he could also overcome his weaknesses in coding and technical skills.
How Salesforce Hacked
In 2024, this technician spent two months dedicating 6-8 hours a day to strengthen his skills. His preparation included learning Data Structures and Algorithms (DSA), system design, and various technology stacks through online courses, books, and articles on the medium.

These efforts eventually helped him secure a role at Salesforce. However, winning the contract did not completely silence his doubts about whether he really belongs among the top technology professionals.
“That outsider feeling never left me. Maybe it’s the problem of achieving things too quickly. What others got in 6-12 months of preparation, I got in 2. And even though I passed 3-4 rounds of rigorous interviews at Salesforce and Amazon, it still felt like a fluke,” he wrote.
Why he left Salesforce for Google
The techie said his decision to leave Salesforce wasn’t because he was unhappy with the company. Instead, he wanted to step up and prove that his success at Salesforce was a result of his ability.

While working at Salesforce, he spent hours after work studying design practices and solving DSA problems he hadn’t attempted before.
“I lived the most disciplined life in Bangalore where my time was divided between the office, gym and upskilling,” he said.
Ultimately, he decided that moving to a larger technology company was the next step in his personal challenge.
“I had to prove to myself that Salesforce wasn’t a fluke, and unfortunately the only way to do that was to leave Salesforce for a bigger company,” he added.

That move eventually led him to Google. In retrospect, he clarified that his career decisions should not have detracted from his experience at either Samsung or Salesforce.
“I am not trying to devalue my previous organizations Samsung & Salesforce in any way. It was all about my personal ambition and will to prove to myself that I deserve a place in the room,” he told Hindustan Times.
