Indian railways are about to introduce a highly anticipated Vande Bharat Sleeper Express in the country just before Diwali, with some reports indicating that the debut date is likely to be in late September.
Unlike existing Vande Bharat Express trains, which primarily offer services for chairs that are suitable for daily or short journeys, the new model was designed specifically with regard to the night roads, the CNBC news channel reported.
From departure to the destination
The premium train designed for the night roads combines Delhi and Patna via Modgeraj and shorten the travel time to just 11.5 hours from the usual 12-17 hours, offering passengers to flight comfort in the tariffs.
The train is expected to be half of the services in a long distance by running at a maximum speed of 180 km/h. For example, while Rajdhani Express takes about 23 hours to cover the same route, it is assumed that Vande Bharat will complete it significantly faster.
The train is expected to leave Patnu at 8pm and Delhi will take place by 7.30 in the morning, and therefore saves the time passengers by providing overnight. The tested journey from Delhi will be followed by a similar schedule overnight, the CNBC report said.
The function of a new sleeper
Each coach Vande Bharat Sleeper was made using Advanced Integral Coach Factory (ICF) by Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML).
It is equipped with a number of modern features for passenger comfort and safety, including CCTV cameras, LED screen and entertainment screen, automatic doors with sensors, modern fire safety systems and devices on board.
The interiors have a design inspired by aircraft and offer passengers a premium travel experience, the report said.
Ticket price
Tariffs of tickets are expected to be 10-15% higher than Rajdhani Express on this particular route. However, officials justified the difference in ticket costs by noticing a shorter journey and improved equipment.
Compared to flights, Vande Bharat Sleeper Express offers a cheaper alternative while maintaining the level of passengers’ comfort traveling so long.
What does it mean for a traveler?
Delhi – Patna is one of the busiest in the country, especially during the festive periods when millions of people travel between the capital city and Bihar. The new sleepers are expected to alleviate this overload and provide faster travel alternative to passengers.
Vande Bharat Express, which was first launched and was inaugurated with Prime Minister Narendra Modim in 2019, became the flag service of Indian railways. He is currently working on seven routes across the country and attracts a strong demand for passengers because of his functions such as speed, safety and comfort.
With the launch of the Sleeper version, the government focuses on expanding the range of service, especially on long distances. Multiple variants of sleeping and upgraded models are already in the pipeline, which means the main transformation of train travel throughout India.
