Downpour, gusty winds uproot trees, throw out life in Hubballi

Heavy downpour coupled with gusty winds led to uprooting of several trees and waterlogging at various junctions knocking life out of gear in Hubballi on Monday evening.
Although the downpour lasted for about half an hour, it was the gusty winds that caused havoc.
As uprooted trees, broken branches fell across the roads and the downpour resulted in waterlogging, the city witnessed kilometers of traffic jams on various roads.
Gusty winds also snapped cables and uprooted trees, power was cut across the city only to be restored late at night.

At Unkal Cross, waterlogging resulted in vehicles standing for kilometers on the flyover and also on the Hubballi-Dharwad Road.
Due to a tree that was uprooted near BVB College in Vidyanagar, vehicles were diverted to the BRTS corridor.
As trees were uprooted and branches fell on alternate routes as well, traffic jams were reported at many places and it took the police nearly an hour to clear the jam.
Kittur Chennamma Circle, where traffic is already in chaos due to the delayed flyover project, the situation worsened on Monday night after the downpour.
A number of vehicles were also damaged and got caught under the falling trees. While two cars were damaged at Shirur Park Road, an author’s ham was damaged at Old Hubballi.
While Dharwad also received rain on Monday, it was not as heavy as witnessed in Hubballi.
Also on Sunday evening, the twin cities witnessed a cloudy sky. Waterlogging was reported at important junctions and continued on Monday.
