Delhi traffic alert ahead of India vs Afghanistan T20I on Sunday, September 13; check roads to avoid, diversions | Today’s news
The Delhi Traffic Police issued a traffic alert ahead of the India-Afghanistan T20 cricket match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on September 13.
From 2 p.m., traffic restrictions, diversions and parking regulations will be applied in and around the stadium. The recommendation was made during the ongoing BRICS summit in the nation’s capital.
In a post on X, the Delhi Traffic Police said, βIn connection with the India-Afghanistan T20 cricket match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on 13/09/2026, traffic restrictions, detours and parking regulations will be in place in and around the stadium area from 2:00 PM onwards.
Which roads may face restrictions?
As per the advisory, restrictions may be imposed on Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, DDU Marg, Mirdard Chowk and JLN Marg depending on the traffic conditions.
Truck movement will also be restricted on designated stretches of Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, JLN Marg and DDU Marg.
People were advised to use alternative routes wherever possible and to plan their journeys in advance to avoid delays.
How are the spectators supposed to get to the stadium?
Match participants were asked to use the routes corresponding to their designated entry gates.
Gates 1-8 can be reached via Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg.
Gates 10-15 are accessible from JLN Marg near Ambedkar Stadium Bus Terminal.
Gates 16-18 can be accessed from Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg near the petrol pump.
The traffic police urged people to avoid unnecessary travel through the stadium area and to make proper arrangements before leaving.

“Commuters are advised to plan their journeys in advance, avoid unnecessary travel through the match venue, use alternative routes wherever possible and follow the instructions of transport staff,” the advisory said.
The Delhi Traffic Police has also urged spectators attending the match to use only designated entry points, parking lots and taxi pick-up and drop-off points using the app.
“Spectators are requested to use only app-based entry, parking and taxi pick-up/drop-off points. For real-time traffic updates, follow Delhi Traffic Police’s official social media handles,” it said.
The warning comes ahead of the start of the T20I between India and Afghanistan at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, with traffic police expecting increased movement of spectators and vehicles around the venue.

“Motorists are requested to remain patient, obey traffic rules and cooperate with traffic personnel deployed in the area. Please follow detour signs and traffic instructions to avoid congestion,” Delhi Traffic Police said.
The traffic police advised commuters to follow the instructions of personnel deployed in the area and use alternate routes whenever possible to avoid traffic jams during the match.
The first India-Afghanistan T20I match is scheduled to be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on September 13.
