Cyclone Montha inundated nearly 1,855 acres of brackish water aquaculture ponds along the Narsapuram coast in West Godavari district, resulting in an estimated loss of ₹20.26 crore. The flood changed the water parameters in the water ponds where the farmers cultivated L. Vennamei shrimp, resulting in high mortality of the shrimp population.
On Friday, West Godavari District Collector Ch. Nagarani said nearly 2,000 aqua farms suffered losses due to flooding of their ponds during the cyclone.
The Narsapuram coast was one of the worst affected areas as it is adjacent to Odalarevu where Cyclone Montha made landfall on 29 October. In West Godavari, crops were damaged in over 13,400 hectares. However, no casualties were reported.
