Strengthening coordination between banks and law enforcement agencies in cases related to cybercrime, especially those related to mule accounts, digital fraud, freezing and unfreezing procedures and issues related to refunds, was the main focus of a coordination meeting with bankers across the Cyberabad Commissionerate on Friday, August 8.
The meeting was attended by representatives of several public and private sector banks along with senior police officials.
Addressing the gathering, Cyberabad Police Commissioner M. Ramesh said cybercrime has become one of the most serious threats facing the society, with victims losing large sums of money through fake investment schemes, online scams, cryptocurrency scams, pre-market offers and fraudulent call center operations.
He said cyber fraud losses in Cyberabad reached ₹438 crore in 2025, while the cases reported so far in 2026 have already led to losses of nearly ₹104 crore.
During the meeting, DCP Cyber Crimes T. Sai Manohar highlighted the delay in the investigation in obtaining account statements, KYC documents, freeze certificates and other bank records necessary for prompt action.
Telangana Cyber Security Bureau SP Sai Sri spoke about the cyber crime data of the National Crime Records Bureau and requested that dedicated cyber crime response counters be set up in every bank along with updated details of nodal officers and back-up personnel for uninterrupted communication with the police.
Banks were further advised to train branch-level staff on cybercrime procedures and provide details of bank advisors for corporate accounts to help speed up investigations and coordination.
Police officials said better cooperation between banks and law enforcement agencies would help reduce delays in investigations, improve enforcement efforts and strengthen customer protection measures.
The meeting was attended by representatives of HDFC Bank, Bank of Baroda, Axis Bank, State Bank of India, ICICI Bank, Bank of India, Telangana Grameena Bank, HDB Financial Services and Kotak Mahindra Bank along with senior police officers from Cyberabad.
