CPI(ML) Liberation demands removal of CEC

Members of CPI(ML) Liberation staged a protest outside Tipu Sultan Garden in Raichur on Friday, demanding the immediate removal of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar and suspension of the Special Intensive Review (SIR) process of compiling the voter lists.

The protesters highlighted media reports which revealed that two of the three election commissioners raised objections at least 14 times regarding key decisions taken by the CEC.

The party claimed that the findings reveal significant flaws, bias and lack of transparency in the functioning of the Election Commission of India.

The protesters demanded the removal of the CEC. Demanding the suspension of the SIR and the restoration of the voting rights of all eligible citizens who were mistakenly excluded from the electoral rolls while holding him accountable for undermining institutional integrity and public trust.

They highlighted concerns about the centralization of voter data and software limitations hindering local registration officers — for example in Goa, where software glitches prevented registration officers from registering 97 eligible voters.

The protesters demanded the replacement of the current election commissioner selection process with the Supreme Court-recommended model, which includes the Prime Minister, the Leader of the Opposition and the Chief Justice of India.

Aziz Jagirdar, Bhimayya, Khader Ahmed, Nisar, Jagadish, Mahendra, Hanif Abkari, Yellappa, Veeresh, Sanna Narasappa and Maranna were present at the demonstration and called upon all non-BJP, secular and democratic parties to come together to protect India’s democratic system.
