Asian Games: Gulveer Singh races to 10,000m silver as India’s athletics surge continues in Nagoya

(AP File Photo) Indian long-distance runner Gulveer Singh won the men’s 10,000m silver medal at the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya on Friday, bettering the bronze he won in the same event at the 2023 Hangzhou Games.Gulveer clocked 28:29.38 to complete the run, 1.87 seconds behind gold medalist Birhana Balew of Bahrain.Gulveer, who won bronze at the previous Asian Games in Hangzhou, finished second behind Birhana Balew of Bahrain, who won the gold in 28:27.51 minutes.Gulveer’s silver came a day after Seema Kumari won bronze in the women’s 10,000m to end India’s 16-year wait for a medal in the event.Seema clocked 32:50.05 to finish third in the women’s 10,000m on Thursday.India also won silver in the 4x400m medley relay on Thursday. Vishal TK, Poovamma, Manu and Vithya Ramaraj clocked 3:14.46 to take second place.Bahrain won gold in the medley relay in a Games record 3:12.87, while Vietnam took bronze in 3:14.54.The silver adds another major medal to Gulveer’s collection this year after finishing second at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
