Atrocities against Dalits: Madiga leaders condemn incidents, demand strict action

​Madiga leaders, expressing anguish over increasing incidents of caste violence, discrimination and untouchability in various districts of Karnataka, including Yadgir, strongly condemned the incidents and criticized the state government for failing to curb such atrocities.

Hanumanth Itagi, former CMC member and Madiga leader, told a press conference that Dalits were subjected to atrocities and killings in Lingsagur and Gursunagi in Raichur and Yadgir districts.

“The state government and the home ministry should ensure the safety of Dalits from such repeated attacks. The attackers should be punished in accordance with the law,” Mr. Itagi said, suggesting that district-level monitoring mechanisms through the home ministry be strengthened to guarantee basic rights and equality.

In response, the home secretary reportedly directed officials to effectively manage documentation, streamline investigations and monitor the progress of all registered atrocity cases, he said.

Community leaders Basavaraja Metri Naikal, Shivaraja Dasanakeri, Anil Kumar Karate and Chandrashekhar Kadesoor were present.
