Comedian Raunaq Rajani says wife suffered rib fracture during CJP protest in Mumbai: ‘Man in khaki kicked her’ | Today’s news
Comedian Raunaq Rajani has claimed that his wife suffered a broken rib after she was allegedly pushed and kicked by a police officer when the couple was detained during a protest in Mumbai’s Shivaji Park. In a video shared on social media on July 26, Rajani described the incident and posted what he said was footage showing the sequence of events that led to the injury.
“My wife has a broken rib”
Rajani says the couple was apprehended on July 22 and initially thought the injury was minor.
According to Rajani, he and his wife were detained by the police during the July 22 protest.
“Hi, my wife’s rib was broken due to the protests in Mumbai. It was broken by a police officer. On July 22, 2026, my wife and I were arrested by the police while they were illegally gathering people at a protest in Shivaji Park. You may have seen the pictures of us both in a police van. She ended up with pain that stuck in my throat. I ended up with the police officer. in her ribs,” he said.

Rajani said they didn’t seek medical attention immediately: “We didn’t make a big deal out of it because honestly, people have been through so much worse in the last week in terms of police brutality that we thought, well, that’s it. We left for Delhi the next day. She came back. The pain wasn’t going away. So we went to the doctor who said she should get an X-ray, which is exactly what happened.”
Rajani shares the videos and claims that the police used excessive force
Rajani then shared several clips that he claimed showed the events leading up to and during their detention. He claimed that he and his wife were protesting the detention of a young protester when the police approached them.
“So it starts with this kid being pulled over and we both told the cops they had no right to do that. Now he’s trying to get to me. While we’re here filming the cops doing this heinous illegal activity, watch out for the man in the khaki uniform coming toward me. That’s how he got me down.”
He further claimed that his wife was violently manhandled when she tried to intervene.

Rajani claimed that another officer, whom he identified as wearing a red outfit, forcibly pushed his wife into the police vehicle.
“This is what a female police officer should have done. He uses his whole body to push her in. Then they try to arrest another innocent boy and they push him into her because they couldn’t.”
“Man in khakis kicked my wife in the ribs”
Rajani claimed that the injury occurred inside the police bus after they were detained.
“So, as you probably heard, one police officer even said, ‘But this man in red came back and now look how he’s going to shove my wife. Now the same cop that pinned me to the ground, the one in khaki, comes in. Now show this exact thing from inside the bus and then you’ll see the man in khaki kick my wife in the ribs.’

He said he was trying to protect his wife during the incident.
“So at this point, I want to make sure nothing happens to my wife. So I ask her to hold my hand. As you saw in the second video, once we were on the floor, a man in khaki came in.”
“And now he kicks my wife and separates her arms. Watch it again, see how his legs move.”
Criticizing what he described as excessive use of force against the protesters, Rajani said he and his wife had approached the police to seek legal action.
“Now this nationwide protest only started because the government misused the police machinery and used it to beat up innocent protesters. And when we stood up for this very thing in Mumbai, instead of backing down, the police tried to double down and do the same to us. We don’t pay our fucking taxes so the police can beat us up.”
