Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka on Monday said there was a complete violation of the agreement that no police action was to be taken against the protesters. He warned that the CJP would renew its protest if these demands were not met.

Ranka demanded immediate withdrawal of all FIRs registered against the protesters, release of detained students and an assurance that no new FIRs would be filed by the Delhi Police, central investigative agencies or police forces in BJP-ruled states as per the agreement.

“We are witnessing a complete violation of the agreement of no police action against the protesters. Hundreds of students have been arrested in Bihar and Bengal and hundreds are being watched/harassed in Delhi and other states. There are numerous reports in Delhi of volunteers supporting the protesters with logistics being detained,” Ranka on X said in a post addressed to Union Ministers Jitendra JP

The CJP called off its protests after receiving assurances from the Government of India that no police action would be taken against the protesters and that the related FIRs would be withdrawn.

Earlier on Monday, CJP chief spokesperson Saurav Das expressed concern over reports that students and other protesters were detained or arrested in Assam, West Bengal and Bihar. He urged the Center to ensure their immediate release and withdraw all FIRs registered against them.

In a post on X, Das said, “Such a breach of trust will be totally unacceptable to the youth,” while also claiming that the party ended its nationwide protest only after receiving assurances from the Indian government that no punitive action would be taken against the protesters.

Das further said, “We are deeply concerned by the numerous reports we have received of students and other protesters being targeted, detained or arrested by various state authorities, particularly in Assam, West Bengal and Bihar.”

He added: “The Cockroach Janta Party called off its nationwide protest only after the Government of India assured us that no repressive action would be taken against any protestor, now or in the future, in any state ruled by the BJP or the NDA. The reports from these states are therefore of grave concern.”

To ensure support for those facing legal action, Das said: “First, we want to assure every protester that our legal team is already working with excellent lawyers in the affected states to secure the release of detainees and extend all possible legal assistance. This has been happening since day one.”

He also appealed to the Center to fulfill its assurances, saying, “Secondly, we call on the Indian government, especially @JPNadda ji and @DrJitendraSingh ji to immediately honor the assurance given to us and ensure the release of those detained and order that no coercive or retaliatory action be taken against any registered protester anywhere in the country.”

Das further reminded the government of its promise to provide a written assurance, saying, “The Government of India is also reminded of its commitment to provide us with a written assurance in this regard by tomorrow, Tuesday, July 28, 2026.”

The development comes amid ongoing unrest in Parliament, where MPs from the Samajwadi Party and the Congress have questioned alleged police violence and reported AK-47 firing during the crackdown on students in Bihar. The opposition has sought Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s reply on the matter.

The agitation was called off on 25 July after Dharmendra Pradhan resigned as Union Education Minister. After discussions with the CJP and activist Sonam Wangchuk, the Center agreed to withdraw cases against protesters, stop police intimidation and introduce legislation to curb paper leaks.
