CJP Protest: Will take action if Supreme Court Metro station not opened by lunch, says CJI Surya Kant | Today’s news

Chief Justice of India Surya Kant said on Thursday that the Supreme Court would intervene if the metro station was not opened by the afternoon. The CJI made the comments while hearing a plea filed by the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) regarding the closure of the Supreme Court Metro Station by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

SCBA president Vikas Singh informed the court that the closure of Supreme Court Metro station and other stations during the ongoing student protests was making it difficult for lawyers and litigants to come to court.

He urged the CJI-led bench that there should at least be limited access for lawyers, litigants and court staff.

The CJI also said that he had directed that no adverse orders should in any case be passed merely on the ground of absence of lawyers affected by the prevailing situation.

The Supreme Court is one of the 16 metro stations in central Delhi that were closed by DMCR following the CJP’s protest over security concerns.
