BRICS Summit 2026: Delhi Police issues traffic alert for September 12; check times, affected routes

Traffic movement on several key stretches in Delhi will be regulated on Saturday, September 12, when India hosts the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit.

As per the advisory issued by the Delhi Police, the restrictions will remain in force from 9:30 am to 9:30 pm, during which traffic will be regulated on important stretches in and around central Delhi.

At the two-day BRICS summit, which is scheduled for 12-13 September in New Delhi, high-level delegations will move around the city, necessitating traffic restrictions on more than 35 roads and diversions at 22 places during VIP and VVIP movements.

According to the traffic advisory, movement around the main venue, Bharat Mandapam (Pragati Maidan), will be heavily restricted. Curbs will be extended to key transit corridors connecting Central Delhi zone with North, South, East and West Delhi.

To help commuters, the Delhi Police has issued an advisory map outlining traffic management measures in central Delhi and adjoining sectors.

Below the classification, controlled roads are highlighted in orange, prohibited zones in purple, alternative routes are marked in blue and turn points are marked with red stars.

“Commuters are advised to plan their journeys in advance and allow extra time,” the Delhi Traffic Police said, urging motorists to follow the instructions of ground traffic personnel and strictly follow the designated detour routes.

The advisory also strongly recommends using the Delhi Metro whenever possible to avoid congestion and delays. The police warned that emergency vehicles and basic services will have priority during the entire period of restrictions.

Commuters heading to major transit hubs between the restricted times are strongly advised to take the Delhi Metro, which will remain fully operational on all lines without interruption.

Delhi Metro services will start early this Sunday

In view of NDA/CDS competitive exams, Delhi Metro train services will start at 6 am on Sunday across all corridors to facilitate movement of students, DMRC said.

Services on the Pink, Magenta and Gray lines usually start at 7am on Sundays.

In a post on X, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said, “To facilitate smooth and timely movement of students coming for exams and general public, Metro train services will start at 6 am on Sunday on all lines.”
