Bombay HC bans firecrackers during festivals across Maharashtra: ‘Will we get another blessing from God?’ | Today’s news

The Bombay High Court has ordered a complete ban on bursting firecrackers during festive processions across Maharashtra, a Bar and Bench report said.

A bench of Justices Girish Kulkarni and Neela Gokhale also said that the use of loudspeakers, DJs and laser beams during religious processions was “totally unwarranted”.

“Will we get more blessings from God by using all these loudspeakers and firecrackers? As a responsible society we should do away with all this. Take the Wari procession (walking pilgrimage to Pandharpur) for example. It is so peaceful with absolutely no loudspeakers or noise,” the HC said.

The court on Monday took suo motu (on its own) cognizance of the issue of loud noise and air pollution caused during the processions.
