BIS has seized Ninja brand kitchen appliances worth ₹8 crore
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) seized 13,021 Ninja brand kitchen appliances worth around ₹8 crore for alleged violation of mandatory quality certification requirements during a raid operation at the company’s premises in Bengaluru on Tuesday.
BIS Bengaluru branch conducted the operation at Cavitak Global Commerce Pvt. Ltd., which operates under the brand GRIPIT, at Chagalahatti, near CMR College Road in Jala Hobli, Yelahanka.
The seized goods included 8,713 fryers and 4,308 portable mixers which did not carry the mandatory BIS Standard mark (ISI mark).
Four deep fryers and one portable blender were also taken to the BIS office as evidence, according to the seizure report.
The action was taken under Section 28 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 for alleged violation of mandatory certification requirements. The appliances were found not to comply with the Kitchen Electrical Appliances (Quality Control) Regulations 2023.
BIS said legal proceedings would be initiated against the company based on the findings. The operation is part of the authority’s ongoing efforts to prevent the sale of products that do not meet the prescribed quality and safety standards, thereby protecting consumers from substandard goods.
BIS has advised consumers to check the ISI mark on products subject to mandatory certification and verify license details through the BIS Care app.
Consumers can also report suspected violations through the authority’s official website at www.bis.gov.in.
In a statement, the company said it was aware of the BIS operation at its authorized distributor’s warehouse in Bengaluru. It said it is committed to complying with all applicable regulatory and safety requirements in every market it operates in, including India, and has maintained that all its products in India, including those seized by BIS, comply with Indian laws.
The company said it is working with BIS to resolve the matter and is cooperating fully with the authorities.
“The safety and satisfaction of our consumers in India remains our highest priority. We are committed to working constructively with Indian regulatory authorities to meet all compliance requirements,” the statement said.
