(AP Photo) Pakistan batsman Babar Azam was fined by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday for breaching the ICC code of conduct during the third match of Pakistan’s recently concluded ODI series against Sri Lanka. “Pakistan batsman Babar Azam has been fined 10 percent of his match fee for a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct,” the ICC said in a statement. Azam breached Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for “Players and Player Support Personnel”, which relates to “misuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an international match”.

The incident occurred in the 21st over of Pakistan’s innings in the third ODI when Babar hit the stumps with the bat before leaving the crease after his dismissal.It was Babar’s first offense in 24 months and a demerit point was added to his disciplinary record, the ICC said. In the third ODI against Sri Lanka, Babar scored 34 runs in 52 balls and was dismissed by Jeffrey Vandersay in the 21st over.Pakistan completed a 3-0 series sweep of Sri Lanka with a clinical six-wicket victory in their third and final ODI on Sunday with 32 balls to spare.Babar starred with the bat, scoring 165 runs – the most in the series – which included a record 20th ODI ton.Babar snapped a streak of 807 days and 83 international innings without a century when he scored a hundred against Sri Lanka in the ODI series in Rawalpindi last week.
