After DU, JNU issues advisory: Don’t join CJP Jantar Mantar protest, promote values of responsible citizenship | Today’s news
After Delhi University, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on Friday, July 24 issued an advisory to students amid the ongoing Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. The university advised all stakeholders of the JNU epistemic community to “act responsibly and prioritize their personal safety”.
The JNU Advisory Council has asked students “to refrain from attending or attending rallies in or around Jantar Mantar, New Delhi”. It said the advisory was issued “in accordance with the directions of the Supreme Court of India regarding public demonstrations”.
The university appealed to students: “Please take responsibility on social media. Violations may result in legal consequences under applicable laws, as well as disciplinary action under the university’s code of ethics. You are also encouraged to uphold the values of academic responsibility and responsible citizenship.”

JNU’s advisory followed the University of Delhi (DU) issuing an official security advisory and asking all students and faculty members to strictly refrain from participating in unauthorized gatherings and demonstrations at Jantar Mantar.
In a post on X on Thursday, the Delhi University reminded students that demonstrations at Jantar Mantar are strictly regulated by the Supreme Court of India guidelines. Participating in illegal assemblies could lead to direct prosecution by law enforcement, he said.
“Dear students and teachers, your safety is important to us. Please note that any illegal assembly or demonstration at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, which is strictly regulated under the guidelines of the Supreme Court of India, may require legal action,” the university said.
“Such activities can also pose serious risks to the personal safety of students and significantly affect their academic progress and career opportunities. All students are therefore requested to stay away from Jantar Mantar and prioritize their safety and law abiding,” the advisory added.
“Furthermore, you are advised to exercise caution as a significant amount of false and misleading content is being created and disseminated to support the situation,” the university said.
Rahul Gandhi slams DU over its warning to students
Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Friday slammed Delhi University for its “not coming close to the Jantar Mantar warning” to students and asked how dare it “threaten” students for exercising their democratic rights.
“Please note, you are the ones who will be held accountable when the time comes,” Gandhi said, tagging a Delhi University social media post advising students to “stay away from Jantar Mantar”.
“How dare you threaten students for exercising their democratic rights? Please note, you are the ones who will be held accountable when the time comes,” Gandhi said in his post.
The focus is on the protest being led by the CJP in the heart of Delhi since June 20 demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET paper leak.
