
Mumbai, March 31 (PTI) India, has become the fifth largest tourist market for Australia in 2024 in the calendar year, thus increasing a 12 % increase in trace compared to the previous year, said Tourism Australia official.
“India continues to be one of the fastest growing markets with almost 4,43,000 Indians who travel to Australia in 2024, and in the previous year 12 % growth.
As for the source market, India has become the fifth largest incoming market for tourism in Australia from the seventh in 2024, he said.
“New Zealand is the largest incoming market for Australia, followed by China, the US and the United Kingdom. India was overtaken by Japan and Singapore from the level before Covid in 2019 to place on the fifth largest source market,” Kashikar said.
When he was spending, Kashikar said, the Indians are on number 5 after China, the US, the UK and New Zealand.
“The Indians not only traveled to Australia, but also spent a significant amount and contributed to the Australian economy. And the total expenditure in the calendar year 2024 was the Australian dollar (AUD) 2.6 billion and expenditures per Indians were almost 6 200 AUD,” he added.
Tourism was supported mainly because of the direct connection between India and Australia with 19 direct flights per week and speed and easy to obtain visa for businesses, he said.
“Air India operates daily direct flights from Delhi to Sydney and Melbourne and Qantas and five times a week from Bengalur to Sydney, Kashikar said, adding:” Malaysia Airlines… improved their connectivity from six cities to almost 10 cities now from India. ”
As he asked about the possibility of linking more Indian cities directly with Australia, he said that Australia’s tourism identified 13 new direct flight routes based on IATA (International Air Transport Association).
