
New Delhi: India has significantly increased its efforts to fight non -standard and false drugs on the market, and the government revealed thousands of such drugs and prosecuted more perpetrators.
Minister of Health of the Union JP Nadda informed parliament on Tuesday that in FY25 a total of 3,104 “non -standard quality” (NSQ) and 245 disturbing or adulterated drugs were identified. The number of legal measures initiated against those who participated in these illegal activities was 961, compared to 604 in FY24. A total of 116,323 drug samples were tested throughout the country last year.
“While it was found that 3,104 were NSQ and 245 false or falsified, the number of prosecuted prosecuted significantly increased to 961, indicating a stronger intervention against the perpetrators,” Nomda said.
He emphasized the government’s fixed commitment to eradicate dangerous and non -standard drugs from the market.
In the fiscal year 2022-23, 96,713 drug samples were found that 3,053 were non-standard and 424 were declared disturbing or falsified, leading to 663 prosecution.
The following year, 2023-24, saw 106 150 samples, with 2,988 identified as NSQ and 282 as fake or fake, resulting in 604 prosecution.
Nadda stated that all complaints about such drugs are immediately investigated in cooperation with the relevant license authorities to ensure appropriate measures.
The aim of the government’s ongoing measures is to ensure public health by citizens are only available to safe and effective medicines.
Although there is no specific legal term for “counterfeit drugs”, existing laws, especially the 1940 drugs and cosmetics law, they already cover them in categories such as “false”, “falsified” and “wrong” drugs. Production, sale or distribution is, like any forbidden medicines, are serious crimes.
The nationwide survey conducted between 2014 and 2016 previously emphasized the prevalence of NSQ and false drugs and tested 47,012 samples from government and private sources across the country.
The licensing bodies are entitled to take strict legal steps against the violators and the investigation is thorough when the complaints arise, the Minister of Health informed parliament.
