AMIT Shah, Minister for Domestic and Cooperation of the Union, introduced the National Cooperation Policy on Thursday (July 24, 2025), with the aim of connecting 50 people with the cooperative sector.
Dalits, Adivasis and Women are the core of a new politics of cooperation, said Mr. Shah. This is only the second such policy for this industry from independence, the first was introduced in 2002 by the government of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
The Minister, who expressed the confidence that India would become the third largest economy by 2027, emphasized the need for inclusive development of 130 people Crore and noted that it was a cooperative sector that has the potential to change people’s lives.

“80 Crore people who have war, government houses are wondering what to do next? Many people have given electricity for the first time, have vaccination in their lives, now seeking iron (for clothes) or Scottish … But they don’t have the capital.
The Minister said that this policy defines six pillars to achieve set goals for the cooperative sector: strengthening the foundation, supporting vibration, preparation of cooperative companies for the future, increasing inclusion and expansion, expanding to new sectors and preparing the younger generation for cooperation.
The Ministry of Cooperation has prepared a detailed plan for sectors such as tourism, taxi, insurance and green energy, said Mr. Shah and added that the beginning will be carried out in a very short time in the taxi and insurance industry. The profits generated through these units will eventually address members of the primary agricultural credit companies (PAC) at the rural level. He stressed that the aim is to build a large and robust cooperative ecosystem and to firmly determine that cooperation can be a vital tool for the development of the country for future generations.
