The controversy broke out online after the video appeared that in Govinda, a well -known net vegetarian restaurant operated by IskCon (International Society for Krishna) in London, he showed a man who showed men.
The man who was believed to be from African British origin reportedly entered the restaurant and asked the staff if he was serving meat. When he was informed that only vegetarian food was offered, he reportedly pulled out the chicken box with him – reported from KFC – and started eating them in the area. The video that has now become viral has caused strong reactions across social media platforms. Many users have expressed anger at what they considered obvious disrespect for the spiritual and cultural values of the restaurant.
Internet outraged
“It wasn’t just ignorance – it was a deliberate disrespect,” one user wrote.
“Shame, intentionally ate the chicken to offend or trigger vegans. He was lucky to get away without anyone slapping him,” another user wrote.
Others asked whether the act was motivated by racism or religious intolerance.
“The deliberate violation of the cultural and religious standards in this way is a clear demonstration of intolerance that can not be tolerated in any civilized society,” the user said.
“I hope that the complaint has been filed at the local police station … I do not know if it is arrested or not, but that is purely hatred of the Hindes and it is fully aware that the Hindes will not be so bold enough to do such a terrible thing,” he wrote fifth.
ISKCON, which operates several vegetarian and vegan restaurants around the world, is rooted in Hindu traditions that strictly forbid meat consumption. The incident ruled interviews about cultural sensitivity, freedom of expression and the need for mutual respect in multicultural societies.
There was no official statement of IskCon London on the incident yet.
