An emphatic victory for the Jana Sena Party in Pithapuram Municipality
Pithapuram Municipality Chairman-elect Daanam Lazar Babu receives his election certificate in Pithapuram on Tuesday.
Daanam Lazar Babu on Tuesday scripted a historic victory with a majority of 9,235 votes against YSRCP’s Pedapati Rajesh Kumar, claiming the Pithapuram municipal chairperson seat in the constituency represented by Jana Sena party president and Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan.
JSP also scored emphatic victories in departmental elections. Out of the 33 wards that contested the elections, they won a whopping 19 seats, while the TDP won five and the BJP one.
The YSRCP, which suffered a heavy drubbing, won only one ward (No. 19) in which Kusi Sattibabu got 576 votes. The election was unanimous in three constituencies claimed by the Jana Sena Party – Kotteti Adilakshmi (Ward 15), Cherukuri Ganapathi (Ward 23) and Ch. VV Kumar (Ward 27).
In 36 wards in the village, 21 women were elected to the village council, 11 of them from JSP.
10 independents win
As many as 10 independent candidates who won were considered rebels – four each from TDP and JSP and two from YSRCP.
They all had a history of working for their party during the 2024 general elections and were eager to be in the fray in the municipal elections on the party ticket. However, they were forced to be rebels as they failed to win the seat.
