The number of polling stations in Tamil Nadu rises to 75,088

The number of voters in each polling station was limited to 1,200.

The number of polling booths in Tamil Nadu has increased from 75,032 to 75,088 following the rationalization carried out under the ongoing Special Comprehensive Review of Photo Electoral Rolls by the Election Commission of India.

According to an official statement by Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik, 134 new polling stations were created during the rationalization and 78 polling stations were merged, resulting in a net increase of 56 polling stations. Furthermore, there was a change of location in 357 polling stations, and in 491 polling stations there was a rearrangement of sections.

The list of completed polling stations received from the district election officials was sent to the Election Commission of India, which subsequently approved it. The rationalization of polling stations was done based on certain criteria. The number of voters in each polling station was limited to 1,200. A polling station was set up every two kilometers to ensure that no voter had to travel more than two kilometers to vote.

No polling station is located in a police station, hospital, temple or other place of religious significance. In addition, there is no political party office within 200 meters of the polling station. All the family members stayed in the same section and in the same place.

During the rationalization, all 234 Registration Officers and 38 District Election Officers met representatives of recognized political parties. The list of polling stations was finalized after taking into account the suggestions and demands of political parties, the report said.
