Watch: Carlos Alcaraz debuts new mustache look for Shanghai Masters

Carlos Alcaraz caught the eye at the Shanghai Masters, but this time it’s not just his tennis. The Spanish star sported a new mustache during the warm-up ahead of his tournament debut, giving fans another glimpse of his willingness to experiment with his look.

The transformation comes as Alcaraz is riding high after winning the Japan Open in Tokyo. The 23-year-old defeated Czech Jiří Lehečka 7-6(4), 6-4 in the final on October 6 to successfully defend his crown and claim his third tour title of the 2026 season.

Alcaraz has now added a mustache to his increasingly diverse collection of looks, with the latest change quickly catching the attention of tennis fans.

FROM BUZZ CUT TO LONG HAIR AND NOW KNIT

The Spaniard has experimented with his hairstyle several times over the past year. At the 2025 French Open, he sported a shorter, cropped haircut after his barber, Victor Martinez, traveled to Paris to give him a fresh look.

Later that year, Alcaraz did even more a dramatic performance at the US Open that arrived with a buzz cut. The haircut followed an accident when his brother tried to use clippers, leaving the Spaniard with no choice but to shave his head. The unexpected transformation sparked a lot of discussion among fans and other players, including Frances Tiafoe.

By 2026, Alcaraz had adopted longer hair and even experimented with braids. Before the tournament in Tokyo, he admitted he was considering another haircut, saying he wanted to try something different and find a style that would suit him best.

Now, the mustache has become the latest addition to his changing look. Interestingly, the transformation appears to have been a team effort, with reports from Shanghai suggesting that members of his coaching and support staff have been involved in the mustache experiment.

TOKYO CHAMPIONS TIGHTS ON SHANGHAI

Style headlines aside, Alcaraz has a major sporting goal in China. Chasing his first Shanghai Masters title, he reached the quarter-finals in 2024 but has never advanced in the tournament. He was absent from the 2025 event.

Fresh from his triumph in Tokyo, the Spaniard will be hoping to carry his winning momentum into Shanghai and strengthen his position in the closing stages of the season. With a new look and renewed confidence, Alcaraz gave fans another reason to follow his campaign.
