Allies of TVK welcome the election victory, saying it is a support for the government’s performance
Party leaders in the ruling alliance welcomed TVK’s victory in the Madurantakam and Dharapuram assembly elections, saying the results were an endorsement of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and the government’s stance on coalition politics.
President of VCK Thol. Thirumavalavan said the victory of TVK candidates Maragatham Kumaravel and P. Sathyabama in the two constituencies reflected the Alliance’s public recognition of the victory of secular social justice. He said the results also indicated voters supported Mr Vijay’s stance in favor of a coalition government.
Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president B. Manickam Tagore said the results reflected public support for the Vijay-led government. He claimed that no cash was distributed to voters during the by-election, calling it a welcome departure from the usual practice in Tamil Nadu elections.
Higher Education Minister P. Viswanathan (Congress) said the victory in both the constituencies reflected the appreciation of the people for the performance of the TVK-led government. He expressed his belief that the party will continue to build on the electoral success.
MDMK General Secretary Vaiko also congratulated Ms. Kumaravel and Ms. Sathyabama for their victories. He added that voters in both the constituencies expressed confidence in the Vijay-led government and thanked the voters.
Talking to reporters in Tiruchi, IUML president KM Kader Mohideen said the poll victory was an endorsement of good governance by TVK. The victory in the by-election was the people’s reward for his clean governance and people-oriented welfare systems, he added.
