Iran war news LIVE: JD Vance says Tehran must make ‘meaningful’ reductions in nuclear enrichment to end war

Iran War News LIVE: US Vice President JD Vance said on Tuesday (local time) that Washington was now seeking “meaningful” reductions in Tehran’s enrichment capacity to meet demand and end the conflict, although the United States was unsure of Iran’s decision in the negotiations. In an interview with Reuters, he said: “If you don’t want a nuclear weapon, then why do you need 60% enriched fuel? And if you want to show a commitment not to build a nuclear weapon, don’t build highly enriched fuel. That’s a very basic problem with the threshold.”

Vance, a longtime skeptic of American involvement in foreign wars, took a leading role in negotiating a settlement to the conflict and previously managed to broker an interim peace deal in June that quickly fell apart. The war has rocked global energy markets and has now become a political liability for US President Donald Trump and Republicans ahead of November’s midterms.
