West Indies name Amit Jangoo as replacement for injured Jewel Andrew
Amir Jangoo of the West Indies. (PTI Photo/Ravi Choudhary) West Indies have added wicketkeeper-batsman Amit Jangoo to their squad for the upcoming T20I series against India. He was brought in as cover for Jewel Andrew who suffered a finger injury during the third ODI in New Chandigarh on Saturday.Andrew injured himself while taking a catch to dismiss Indian batsman Naman Dhir. The wicketkeeper left the field immediately and was taken to hospital for X-rays as the West Indies medical team assessed the extent of the injury.Cricket West Indies said: “Amir Jangoo has been added to the squad as cover for the wicketkeeping position following the finger injury sustained by Jewel Andrew during the third ODI on Saturday. Andrew is still being monitored and assessed by the medical team.”
Why Amit Jangoo has a challenge
Andrew picked up the injury on the last delivery of the 36th over of the Indian innings. Dhir chipped the batsman off Gudakesh Motie’s left arm towards cover where Andrew completed the catch but was hit hard on the finger.The injury meant Andrew was unable to open the innings during the West Indies’ chase of 352. Captain Shai Hope moved up the order to replace John Campbell at the top.Jangoo, 29, has already played seven T20Is for West Indies since his international debut in December 2024. He has scored 163 runs at a strike rate of 120.74 in the format.
Impressive ODI form
The wicketkeeper-batsman comes into the T20I series after an excellent ODI campaign against India. Jangoo scored an unbeaten 58 in three matches, followed by 114 and 67.His total of 239 runs made him the third highest run-scorer in the ODI series across both teams. Only India’s Shubman Gill with 334 runs and West Indies captain Shai Hope with 278 have scored more.The first T20I between India and West Indies will be played in Lucknow on Tuesday.
