After many years, visitors to Muziris will be able to explore the heritage sites dotted across the region from next week on boats and water taxis.
The vessels will operate from 14 jetties in the North Paravur-Kodungallor region on the Ernakulam-Thrissur border.
Water sports enthusiasts can opt for kayaking, for which 25 single and double kayaks have been prepared by the Muziris Heritage Project (MHP). Chief Minister VD Satheesan will launch the tour services on Sunday (October 4, 2026) at Thattukadavu Boat Jetty in North Paravur.
“They are being launched as part of the state government’s projects for the Muziris region. The aim is to raise the MHP to international standards to attract more heritage lovers, apart from domestic and foreign travellers,” said Shine KS, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the MHP.
Boat trips and kayaking activities would go a long way in socio-economic upliftment of the youth, artists and others of the region. In addition, the long-pending renovation of museums will pick up speed and the government will set up committees. The goal is to transform IHL into an internationally recognized one within one year, he added.
The boat tour packages that Muziris Projects Limited would operate in the region include four-hour Paliam and Kottayil Kovilakom cluster tours. For program details, call 90208-64649.
