The Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC) will launch ‘Mayura Ruchi on Wheels’, its first mobile food service initiative, to provide quality and hygienic food to tourists at major tourist destinations across the state, Energy and Tourism Minister KJ George said.

The initiative aims to take Mayura Hotels KSTDC’s food and hospitality services off the hotel premises and closer to tourists in high-footprint locations, according to a report issued on Saturday.

In the first phase, KSTDC plans to deploy food deliveries in Hampi, Madikeri, Jog Falls, Mysuru, Nandi Hills and key tourist spots in Bengaluru. The mobile catering units will serve breakfast, snacks, meals and select regional specialties from different parts of Karnataka.

KSTDC currently operates 24 Mayura Hotels across the state. According to the company, some of these hotels are located outside the main tourist areas, making it difficult for visitors to access their food services. Mobile food delivery is intended to bridge this gap by delivering Mayura’s menu directly to popular tourist spots.

“A good tourism experience must also include access to good food. Through ‘Mayura Ruchi on Wheels’, we want to bring the taste and quality of Mayura Hotels directly to visitors to major tourist destinations,” said Mr. George.

He added that the initiative will promote the regional cuisine of Karnataka, create employment opportunities and contribute additional revenue to the KSTDC.

KSTDC chairman M. Srinivas said that the corporation would take up the mobile catering initiative for the first time. He said: “Local foods would be favoured, which could also create employment and business opportunities for local communities.”
