Heavy rain will continue to concern parts of North India tomorrow, September 27. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of extremely heavy rainfall in parts of Uttarakhand. Himachal Pradesh and West Uttar Pradesh are facing very heavy rain at isolated places.
A depression over southeast Uttar Pradesh is causing unsettled weather. It is expected to move in a north-northwesterly direction, weakening by tomorrow morning.
However, heavy rain and strong winds may continue despite this weakening. North Madhya Pradesh may witness heavy rainfall at isolated places.
In Uttarakhand, Dehradun, Tehri and Pauri are facing extremely heavy rain at isolated places. Heavy to very heavy rain is likely at isolated places in the remaining districts.
Light to moderate rain or thunderstorms can be expected at most places across the state. Thunderstorms can bring lightning and winds of up to 50 km/h. At altitudes above 3,600 meters, snowfall is likely.
South-eastern areas of Himachal Pradesh could see heaviest rain activity tomorrow. Sirmaur carries an orange warning for isolated heavy to very heavy rain.
Bilaspur, Mandi, Shimla and Solan are facing yellow alerts due to isolated heavy rain. Parts of Kinnaur, Kullu, Kangra, Chamba, Una and Hamirpur may receive light rain. Thunderstorms and gusty winds could make travel difficult in several counties.
West Uttar Pradesh may experience very heavy rain at isolated places. East Uttar Pradesh is likely to experience isolated heavy rainfall. Winds across northern Uttar Pradesh and adjoining Uttarakhand may gust to 45 kmph. These winds are expected to gradually weaken thereafter.
Delhi can expect generally cloudy skies tomorrow. Maximum temperatures are likely to be between 30°C and 32°C, with minimums between 21°C and 23°C.
Afternoon winds can reach speeds of 22 km/h. Broader forecast signs isolated heavy rain in Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi region.
Elsewhere, scattered or isolated rain is likely across several eastern, western and southern states. These include Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
Rain is also likely at isolated or scattered places across the northeastern states. Andaman and Nicobar Islands can expect more widespread rainfall.
Flash floods
Flash floods remain a concern in parts of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh till tomorrow evening. Parts of western Uttar Pradesh also face a low to moderate risk of flash floods. Heavy rain could cause landslides, flood roads and disrupt road or rail transport.
The IMD has asked people to avoid flooded roads, overflowing streams and slopes prone to landslides. Uttarakhand’s advisory asks pilgrims and tourists to travel only when necessary.
During a storm, hide indoors rather than under trees. Farmers should protect harvested crops and ensure drainage wherever fields become waterlogged, warns the IMD.
